In the time since I started using essential oils, I’ve had some really great experiences in regards to my overall health and wellness.

I use doTERRA essential oils daily to clean my home, when I make food and for my personal care products. When it comes to those personal care products, one thing that really benefits is the skin.

Certain essential oils have properties that promote happy, healthy skin and can be used to:

  • Soothe irritated skin
  • Promote healthy, clear skin
  • Reduce the appearance of scars
  • Rejuvenate the skin
  • Reduce breakouts
  • Enhance the natural process of skin returning to a healthy state

Now, doTERRA has several essential oils with those properties, but there are a few favorites that I use on a regular basis that you can get in any essential oil kit.

1. Lavender

Lavender is very soothing – and not just to use for a more restful night’s sleep. On the skin, lavender is used to soothe occasional skin irritations.

How to use it for the skin: doTERRA’s lavender essential oil is gentle enough to use on the skin without being diluted first. In fact, all three of these oils are. If your skin is feeling irritated, dab on a bit of lavender essential oil on the affected area. I like to put my finger over the opening of the bottle and tip it over then right side up quickly. It ends up being a fraction of a drop, which is all that’s needed.

2. Melaleuca

Melaleuca is well-known for its cleansing properties. It’s also very soothing for irritated skin and does such a great job at reducing breakouts. Melaleuca is renowned for its cleansing and rejuvenating effect on the skin and for promoting a healthy complexion. Like lavender, melaleuca soothes minor skin irritations.

How to use it for the skin: Melaleuca can be used in the same way as lavender – dab a fraction of a drop on the affected area. You can also add a drop to your facial cleanser, especially if your skin is prone to breakouts. It gives the skin a nice, fresh feeling.

3. Frankincense

Frankincense is an overall skin rejuvenator. It’s been shown to reduce the appearance of scars and blemishes. Frankincense also promotes cellular health, so when you use it on your skin it goes deep to help it look great from the inside out.

How to use it for the skin:  Add a drop to your facial moisturizer for overall skin rejuvenation. It can also be used body-wide, just mix it with unscented lotion or fractionated coconut oil for easy application. If in doubt of which oil to use, try frankincense!
