5 ways to use peppermint essential oil to boost energy

There are a lot of great essential oils out there, but today I’m excited to share one of my very favorites with you: peppermint. Peppermint essential oil is incredibly versatile and you can use it all throughout the day for things like cleaning, creating a healthier environment and even baking (try adding some next time you make brownies).

I use peppermint essential oils on a regular basis because of its many benefits:

  • Promotes healthy respiratory function and clear breathing
  • Alleviates occasional stomach upset
  • Frequently used in toothpaste and chewing gum for oral health

But one of my favorite ways to use peppermint essential oil is for an energy boost. Whether you use it when wake up, before you workout or for an afternoon pick-me up, peppermint is a safe, caffeine-free way feel energized.

Here are 5 great ways to use peppermint essential oil to boost energy:

Inhale

Want a quick energy boost in the morning? Simply inhale some peppermint essential oil. The aroma of peppermint is energizing and inhaling it when you wake up will help you get your day off to a great start.

You can add some peppermint to your essential oil diffuser or take the cap off the bottle and waft the aroma toward your nose a few times.

Water

Peppermint essential oil is a great addition to your water! For an energizing drink, just add 1 drop of peppermint essential oils to 4 oz. of water (or use that same ratio if you want more water) in a glass or stainless steel cup or bottle.

Be sure to use only 100% pure oils, with a supplement facts label for this. (The brand I recommend offers 100% pure essential oils.)

Protein shake

If you like peppermint and chocolate, you’ll love this tip. Next time you need a nourishing energy boost, try adding 2 drops of peppermint essential oil to a chocolate protein shake. You can use water or milk as the liquid – either one tastes good.

Pre-workout

Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and you can definitely use essential oils to make it easier. Before you workout, add 2 drops of peppermint essential oil to your water bottle (remember, only use essential oils with glass or stainless steel).

Not only will it help boost energy, but peppermint’s cooling effects will feel great while you’re breaking a sweat.

Back of the neck

We’ve talked about using peppermint essential oil aromatically and internally to boost energy, so how about topically? You can get the same energy boost from rubbing peppermint on your skin. I do recommend diluting a bit, though, first.

In the palm of your hand, pour 1 drop of peppermint essential oil and 2 drops of fractionated coconut oil. Rub your hands together a few times and then rub the mix on the back of your neck. This is a great way to boost energy while cooling your body.

Which peppermint essential oil brand should you use?

Now, I only recommend using doTERRA essential oils because they’ve been certified 100% pure. These essential oils are free of any harmful chemicals or contaminants, which makes it safe for you to use.

This is especially important because essential oils are super concentrated and potent, which means you don’t want to use anything that has unknown additives.
